Blinds guide
Repair old Venetian blinds or replace them?
Is one small holder broken, or is the whole Venetian blind worn? That distinction matters more than age alone. A sound blind with one faulty part deserves a different assessment from one whose slats, cords and mechanism all need attention.
Arrange a home consultationA small fitting may be the whole problem
Cord holders, tilt-rod holders and other small fittings can break while the blind itself remains in good condition. If the fault is limited to a replaceable part and a compatible spare is available, replacing the entire blind may be unnecessary.
Take a close-up of the broken part and a wider photo of the whole window. These can help establish whether the problem involves a holder, a cord or the internal mechanism. A similar-looking part in a photo is not enough to confirm compatibility; the model and fixing method still need checking.
Check the rest of the blind as well
When several slats are bent, cords are worn and operation is sticking, replacing one part may leave other problems unresolved. Consider the slat condition, raising and lowering, and tilting separately. In your enquiry, explain which of these is not working normally.
An old blind needing substantial labour can cost nearly as much to repair as to replace. A new blind suited to the window may then offer better value. This is not a reason to replace every old blind: a sound overall condition and an isolated fault are good reasons to investigate a small repair first.
Compare the complete job, not just the spare part
The repair comparison should include parts, labour and visits, plus removal and refitting where needed. For a replacement quotation, check the product, measuring, installation and any agreed removal of the old blind. An inexpensive spare part alone does not tell you the total cost of the job.
Start by asking what the existing blind would need and what fitting a replacement would include. Service life depends on the product, use and conditions, so a fixed number of years cannot be promised. Choose the option that solves the current need at a reasonable overall cost.
Replacement is a chance to reconsider privacy
If the Venetian blind already needs replacing, consider whether it still suits the room. Do you want adjustable slats, more privacy at the bottom of the window or a different appearance? The new covering does not have to be the same type, but the choice must suit the window construction and the room.
Venetian and pleated blinds manage light differently. Depending on the model, a pleated blind can cover the lower part while leaving the upper window open. Window movement, handles and fixing options need checking before choosing; one fitting method will not suit every window.
Agree removal of the old blind beforehand
Removal and taking away the old blind can be agreed as part of replacement. Include this in the quotation so you know what happens on installation day and who handles the removed products. Do not assume it is automatically included with every delivery.
Removed materials are sorted according to local waste guidance. A blind can contain different materials and joined components, so it would be inaccurate to promise that everything is recyclable. In the Helsinki metropolitan area, HSY's waste guide provides sorting guidance. If the material or collection point is unclear, check the guidance before taking it away.
Before your home visit
Start with a question: share your town, approximate window count and what is broken or what you want to improve. You can attach a wider photo and a close-up of the part. Haina Noma serves Uusimaa; job suitability and any visit are agreed individually. An enquiry does not commit you to a home visit or an order.
